Check Your Virus Guard

Hello friends,

Nowadays there are lots of virus guards in the world. Various companies produce various type of virus guards to fight with the current viruses. i could not you give a proper explanation about viruses and virus guards from my prior articles but i am hoping to publish articles regarding viruses and anti virus software as soon as possible.

Popular Virus Guards In The World

Today, i brought you a simple method which helps you to check whether your current virus guard is working properly. (This method is a very common and popular method)

Actually we check the existing virus guard by using a fake virus. We create a fake virus and then check whether the virus guard detects it( nothing to worry about making a fake virus. fake virus does not harm your computer even though it is not detected by the virus guard. it just pretends as there is a virus   :) )

Below are the methods you need to follow,

Open "notepad" application in your computer ( if you have any other text editors like notepad++    you can use it too)

copy and paste the below code in to the notepad screen

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Now save your file anywhere in your hard disk using the name : eicar.com

that is all

Now your virus guard should detect the saved file as a virus and it should be shown  as a virus. (Below is an example. The way virus guard show the message depends on the type of virus guard. some may delete it and some may ask what to do. Our goal is knowing whether the virus guard can detect viruses - it works properly)

Your virus guard will detect the file within few seconds.
If your virus guard did not detect this file there should be an error of your virus guard.

If you have any problem regarding this test, comment below.

An Introduction To USB (Universal Serial Bus)

What is USB ?

Universal Serial Bus, commonly known as USB, is a very popular on data transferring applications in the world. USB was created in the middle of 1990s and now most of computer related equipment are using this technology for data transmission so currently billions of usb products are manufactured annually. The main purpose of creating USB is to reduce the number of interfaces of a typical computer. You might have seen, normally there are lots of interfaces in a computer such as serial ports, parallel ports,ps/2 and many more. The usb technology was used to replace these interfaces by a common interface so that all the type of devices can be connected to a single port. Also to use as a power supply for some devices(supply power for small devices).

USB Ports & Connectors

There are 2 major types as type A & type B.They are divided in to sub categories under their shape (see the picture below)

Advantages of USB

The reason for the huge popularity is non other than its lots of advantages. Normally older interfaces were used only fore specific connector but as mentioned in the earlier chapter same port can be applied for various kind of connectors, even though this is the most advantageous thing of usb there are many more
  •  Hot-swappable
Hot swapping/ hot plugging  facility is added to the usb therefore the usb devices can be connected and disconnected while computer is running. (No need to reboot when new device is connected)
  • As a power supply  (power is supplied from the bus)
When small devices are plugged in to the computer using USB bus then the device does not need to get external power from any outside source. Power for the device is supplied through the universal serial bus from the pc(5V). devices such as internet/Bluetooth dongles, cooling fans can be connected to the pc. Large devices such as printers, scanners need to be connected to an external power source.
  • Plug and play
Operating system automatically detects the connected device and no need to install additional software to make the device identified to the operating system.
  •  Low cost for implementation
The complexity of the data transmission is handles by the pc. Devices can be connected to the pc using low cost cables (few wires within the cable) and other instruments.

USB versions

There were few versions such as :
usb 0.7
usb 0.8
usb 0.9  and more ….
But most popular versions are 2.0 and 3.0
      •  USB 2.0: Released in April 2000. Added higher maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s
      •   USB 3.0 was released in November 2008. The standard defines a new "SuperSpeed" mode with a signaling speed of 5 Gbit/s and a usable data rate of up to 4 Gbit/s
Difference of usb 2.0 and 3.0 can be identified by the color of the connectors.
 2.0 - white and 3.0 - blue

Applications of USB

There are lots of applications of usb. Here are few applications of usb.

keyboards and pointing devices
Mass storages
External hard disks
Printers
Scanners
Dongles
Modems
Some external sound cards, tv cards are nowadays connected to usb port.
Like this many devices are using usb technology for data transferring.

Blue-tooth technology in mobile devices

Blue-tooth can be described as a wireless technology standard for transmitting data over a very short distance( few meters). Blue-tooth technology use radio waves for transmitting data. It is a very popular method in data transferring between mobile devices specially in mobile phones. There are many reasons for its popularity  this technology is a wireless technology, security is higher than older methods and easy to use these were some facts which made bluetooth popular . In earlier stages in mobile devices they used infrared data transmission technology. many mobile phones used this method to data transfer, but later with the arrival of the blue-tooth. Blue-tooth became more popular.

Normally in any blue-tooth enabled mobile devices can be connected with each others very easily( except iphones, iphones can be connected only with iphones). After connected, it can do lots of operations depend on the condition of the mobile device. Such as file transferring, remote controlling, working as a music player. Also it can make person al area networks of 3MB/s speed.

When we consider the security aspects, even security is not too high but it has some average features. Normally if a device does not like to be detected it can go to invisible mode. Also when a connection is going to be established it ask for pass key. These are some security features of blue-tooth. Modern devices has more security features.

Currently blue-tooth is used not only for mobile devices but also it is used for any other devices such as medical instruments, security instruments for domestic usage. Their low current usage and accuracy is considered for this applications. Currently blue-tooth technology is being developed more and more. Very speed and micro size blue-tooth devices will be commercially available in near future.

What is a Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray disc (do not misunderstand as blue-ray) is another triumph in science and technology. The Blu-ray disc also is used to store data like other storages such as CD and DVD but the specialty of Blu-ray is that It can contain a large amount of data. A single layer Blu-ray disc contains 25 GB and A dual layer disc contain 50 GB of space.  Currently it is mostly used to store movies and TV shows in HD videos format.

The name “Blu-ray” refers to the blue laser used to read the disc. A normal DVD or CD is written by a red laser the wave length of the red laser is longer than blue laser therefore CD/DVD cannot be included a large amount of data but the blue laser is a laser that emits electromagnetic radiation at a wavelength of between 360 and 480 nanometers, which the human eye sees as blue or violet. Due to the small wave length, discs can be written in a high density of data on a unit area of the disc. Therefore the disc can hold a large amount of data.

Due to the huge data capacity of Blu-ray disc it has become very popular among people and it can be used for many other purposes. Any form of data available on a PC can be stored directly to a Blu-ray Disc, including text, images, video and audio files. Blu-ray discs can be used as a large removable disc by using appropriate soft wares. These are the main features of Blu-ray disc. Due to these reasons it is becoming more and more popular day by day
