What is a Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray Disc

Blu-ray disc (do not misunderstand as blue-ray) is another triumph in science and technology. The Blu-ray disc also is used to store data like other storages such as CD and DVD but the specialty of Blu-ray is that It can contain a large amount of data. A single layer Blu-ray disc contains 25 GB and A dual layer disc contain 50 GB of space.  Currently it is mostly used to store movies and TV shows in HD videos format.

The name “Blu-ray” refers to the blue laser used to read the disc. A normal DVD or CD is written by a red laser the wave length of the red laser is longer than blue laser therefore CD/DVD cannot be included a large amount of data but the blue laser is a laser that emits electromagnetic radiation at a wavelength of between 360 and 480 nanometers, which the human eye sees as blue or violet. Due to the small wave length, discs can be written in a high density of data on a unit area of the disc. Therefore the disc can hold a large amount of data.

Due to the huge data capacity of Blu-ray disc it has become very popular among people and it can be used for many other purposes. Any form of data available on a PC can be stored directly to a Blu-ray Disc, including text, images, video and audio files. Blu-ray discs can be used as a large removable disc by using appropriate soft wares. These are the main features of Blu-ray disc. Due to these reasons it is becoming more and more popular day by day
